Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi emphasized expanding bilateral ICT relations as well as strengthening bilateral coordination at international specialized forums, during a meeting with Saad Al Sharif, Qatar’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tehran.
The two sides discussed
Iran–Qatar relations and explored opportunities to expand joint cooperation in information
and communication technology, examining existing potential for strengthening
engagement in digital technologies and making use of opportunities for
collaboration in this field.
Another part of their discussions
focused on cooperation between Tehran and Doha within international
organizations and specialized forums. In this context, the two sides discussed
their engagement within the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and
issues related to the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference on Nov 9- 27 in Qatar.
It was noted that given the ITU’s
role in shaping global policies and standards in communications and information
technology, coordination and engagement among member states within this
organization can provide a valuable framework for advancing shared perspectives
and interests and strengthening international cooperation.
The ITU Plenipotentiary
Conference, the Union’s highest decision-making body, is held every four years,
bringing together member states to determine strategic directions, work
priorities, and key issues concerning the future of communications and
information technology worldwide.
Its convention provides an opportunity
to strengthen regional ICT diplomacy and expand engagement among participating
countries.
In this context, bilateral
consultations and discussions on matters of mutual interest can help promote a
better understanding of each other’s positions, enhance coordination, and
foster cooperation in international forums.
